John Freshwater - Middle School teacher John Freshwater has been charged with burning crosses onto the arms of his students at Mount Vernon Middle School in Ohio.
John Freshwater taught science at Mount Vernon Middle School. He taught creationism, kept a Bible on his desk, and had other religious items in his classroom.
A student’s family filed a federal lawsuit against John Freshwater and the school district claiming Freshwater burned a cross on their child’s arm that remained for three or four weeks.
Teacher John Freshwater used a high frequency generator to burn images of a cross on students’ arms in December, a report said. Freshwater told investigators he was trying to demonstrate the device on some students and said the image is an X not a cross. Pictures show the imageis clearly a cross, the report said.
The middle school science teacher has won the ‘Teacher of the Year’ award twice during his career.
