MUFA Diet – Liz Vaccariello, Editor-in-Chief of Prevention magazine talks about the MUFA-based diet in her new book The Flat Belly Diet! in the Today Show video clip below.

The MUFA Diet is the brainchild of Liz Vaccariello and Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, Nutrition Director of Prevention.

According to their website, flatbellydiet.prevention.com, the Flat Belly Diet! is divided into two stages:

  1. Stage One is a 4-Day Anti-Bloat Jumpstart designed to eliminate belly bloat and get the body and mind ready for successful follow through.
  2. Stage Two is the lifetime plan comprised of four 400-calorie meals per day, each including a MUFA-rich food and a motivational maintenance plan that helps avoid plateaus.

What are MUFAs? MonoUnsaturated Fatty Acids.

MUFAs are plant-based fats found in some of the world’s most delicious foods. Studies show that these good-for-you fats enhance heart health and protect against chronic disease. And now the latest research shows that these dietary superstars may even target fat where it’s hardest to lose — in your belly!

MUFA Diet – Nuts and Seeds:
Almonds, Brazil nuts, cashew butter, natural peanut butter, dry-roasted cashews, dry-roasted peanuts, dry-roasted sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, roasted pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sunflower seed butter, tahini (sesame seed paste), and walnuts.
