Fired teacher Jaime Katheryn Steen also bought beer for five underage boys when she took them on a field trip.
“We found out that she had been sending obscene text messages” to students, said Lt. Louis Hernandez of the Fort Stockton Police Department. “The messages were adult pornographic pictures in the form of jokes.”
“She was not using her best judgement,” Hernandez said. “She was brought in at a later time and confessed that this did occur.”
Hernandez said the investigation began about a week ago when the principal of Fort Stockton High School heard rumors that one of the teachers was buying alcohol for students. The principal brought in students for questioning and found the allegations had merit.
It was alleged that sometime in September that Jaime Kathryn Steen, a 24-year old agriculture teacher, had “taken five boys on an unauthorized school trip out in the country,” Hernandez said.
Steen reportedly bought a six-pack of alcoholic beverages for the students, which they drank and went on their trip, he said.
The boys were ages 15, 16 and 17, Hernandez said.
Steen was arrested and charged with selling or distributing or displaying harmful material to a minor, which is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by 180 days to a year in jail.
