Americans Elect – A new non-party has gained popularity and buck not only the two/three party elections system but take the nomination directly to the people.
The new non-party group says they have the means and the funds to put a candidate on the ballot in every state and the candidate will be chosen by popular vote by the people, not the Dems, the GOP, the Tea Party, or the Libertarians.
A non-partisan primary is currently underway and each citizen will have a voice in who their candidate will be. The primary is held in an unconventional way but maybe the best way for the new millenium – Online! Voters can nominate anyone and some of the names that have already been put forward are: Howard Shultz, Hillary Clinton, Michael Bloomberg, and Evan Bayh.
None of the proposed candidates have agreed to anything and can only decline the nomination after surviving several rounds of voting. Potential candidates need not be well known or career politicians. It simple boils down to the popular vote. In fact, Americans Elect stands of the premise that any constitutionally eligible citizen can be a candidate.
Americans Elect also has an unconventional rule – the running mate cannot be from the same political party as the presidential candidate. The organizers of the non-partisan ‘party’ are Republicans and Democrats.
The group’s stated purpose?
The goal of Americans Elect is to nominate a presidential ticket that answers directly to voters—not the political system.
American voters are tired of politics as usual. They want leaders that will put their country before their party, and American interests before special interests. Leaders who will work together to develop fresh solutions to the serious challenges facing our country. We believe a secure, online nominating process will prove that America is ready for a competitive, nonpartisan ticket.
They are well on their way to putting the first directly nominated, non-partisan candidate on the ballot in all 50 states with over 1.9 million signatures and counting.
So perhaps, instead of Occupy Wall Street or Occupy Main Street, the ‘occupiers’ could have just what millions of Americans are looking for. A voice and a choice. To learn more, go to AmericansElect.org
