Michelle Obama Pens New Cookbook – American Grown is the name of the cookbook by Michelle Obama that is due out in stores on April 12, 2012.
The first lady decided that she wants to share with America what she has learned from her vegetable garden she started at the White House in 2009. Even though she was a beginner to growing vegetables, she has apparently learned enough to share her healthy eating plans in her new book, American Grown.
The book will include ideas on seed-sowing, recipes, and healthy eating tips that Mrs. Obama has used for 2+ years in the White House. Her own vegetable garden includes over 55 varieties of vegetables including kale, yellow peppers, and eggplant.
The recipes in American Grown are all inspired from her White House garden and includes photos and personal anecdotes of the Obama’s healthy food crusade. According to the books publisher, Random House, American Grown’s aim is to show readers that “increased access to healthy, affordable food can promote better eating habits and improve the health of families and communities across America.”
Visitors can sometimes tour Michelle Obama’s White House garden and some recipes that the garden has inspired have been released during those tours. Those White House favorites are sure to be in the new cookbook. Some of those favorites include:
- Broccoli Soup
- Cauliflower Macaroni and Cheese (a favorite of Malia and Sasha)
- Grilled Chicken Salad with Herb Sherry Vinaigrette
- Fruit and Oatmeal bars
While the idea of a garden to table cookbook is not new, American Grown should prove to be a big seller. All profits from the sale of the cookbook will be donated to an undisclosed charity.
