Job Loss Greeting Cards – Hallmark is launching a new line of job loss greeting cards as signs of the high unemployment rate continue to plague the economy.
According to Hallmark Creative Director, Mark McCracken, the intent is to show support and sympathy for friends, family, and co-workers who have lost their jobs.
Most of the job loss greeting cards offer up some humor, and humor can certainly help during times of high stress. With average unemployment rates at over 8%, unemployment cards may be popular for quite some time.
“People in times of need will always need to connect,” McCracken said, “and when the consumers have asked us for a way to connect in those difficult situations, we try to respond in an authentic way and we think that’s what the greeting card does.”
It wasn’t very long ago that separation and divorce cards were new and seems shocking to some. But unemployment cards can offer that same sentiment – “This is a tough time and I am thinking of you.” Doing so with humor can help ease the stress, if only briefly.
It may not ease the pain and uncertainty of such a traumatic, life-changing event, but some people are comforted to know that they are not forgotten just because they are unemployed. If it brings a smile, then it’s worth the price of the card and postage stamp.
